Virtues
of the Month/Anti-bullying
Each month a VIRTUE is introduced. Virtues help build
character and integrity. The virtues of Respect, responsibility,
peace, faith, happiness, love, courage, citizenship,
honesty and commitment are all aspects of our Gospel
values-living our Christian way. Each month, a student
is selected from every grade and the school celebrates
the goodness of these students.
Forgot
my Lunch Program
Lunch and Learn provides the school with food for
the students who forget their lunch at home.
Hot Meals
Through a catering company, students can order a ‘HOT
MEAL LUNCH’ for $4.05. Every Friday, the students
who order lunch, get to enjoy hot meals of spaghetti,
hamburgers, potatoes, vegetables and fruit. WHAT A
GREAT LUNCH!!
Fire
Chief for the Day
Amongst thousands of entries, one of our Gr. 4 students
won the contest for FIRE CHIEF FOR THE DAY. The school
was visited by our local firefighter and the huge
Red Fire Truck.
Theme
Days and Spirit Days
Pius XII penguins participate in Crazy Hair Day, Western
day, colour days, pyjama days crazy hat days and many
other wacky days to make school a fun place to be.
Math Challenge
Students from grades 5 through 8 can participate in
Math Challenge. These children, in groups of three,
need to work cooperatively in order to solve challenging
math problems. The teams then compete against many
other schools within our Board. Each division ( grades
5 & 6, and grades 6,7 and 8) will have five challenges
starting in October and ending by May. The top three
teams are announced by June of each year.
Walk-a-thon
This year students and staff in the school will participate
in our second annual Walk-a-thon. Students collect
pledges and all proceeds go towards our school yard
transformation.

Basketball
Students from grades 7 and8 are invited to join the
team. Practices and games take place after school
hours. Weekend tournaments usually take place in the
fall.

Students from grades 7 and8 are invited to join the
team. Practices and games take place after school

Track
and Field
Students from grades 3 to 8 take part in the school
wide track and field event. The top athletes will
participate in the school board wide event in late
May or early June. All events take place during school
hours.

Conservation
Mrs. Tanya Marcotte and some students from grade 6
oversee the school’s energy conservation efforts.

Play
Day
At the end of the school year, all students and staff
organize events for a whole day. Organized by Mrs.
Marcotte, students are put into groups and everyone
has fun by winning prizes.
Oral Communication
Competition
Every second year, the students from grades 3 to 8
can participate in this competition at the school
level. Winners move on to the School Board Level Competition.
Spelling
Bee Competition
Every alternate year, the students from grades 3 to
8 can participate in this competition at the school
level. Winners move on to the School Board Level competition
Heritage
Fair
Heritage Historica Fair is a multi-media education
program developed to increase awareness and interest
in Canadian history. It is a celebration of Canada’s
shared traditions and history. The primary focus of
the Sudbury Regional Heritage Historica Fair is to
encourage students to use any medium of choice to
tell stories and share information about local heroes
and events, and to provide them with an opportunity
to present the results of their efforts to the community
at large.
